Archaeology Scotland

Archaeology Scotland (the new trading name for the Council for Scottish Archaeology) is a Scottish educational charity, originally established as the Council for British Archaeology (Scotland) in 1944. Archaeology Scotland became fully independent in 1988 and a company limited by guarantee in 2004 and now employs nine full time or part time staff. It runs a range of flagship projects, including the Scottish network of theYoung Archaeologists' Clubs, the annual Scottish Archaeology Month as well as community conferences and hands-on events throughout Scotland.

The Adopt-a-Monument Scheme was set up in June 2006 through funding from Historic Scotland. The scheme works with community groups across Scotland to support local projects that conserve, promote, interpret and improve access to archaeological sites that are endangered or in a state of disrepair. Through the scheme, communities are given professional training and advice in archaeological recording techniques and in interpretive, access, and site management planning.
